Hip-Hop × Culture × Real Conversations

CMJ Shark covers the artists, releases, personalities, conversations and communities that move hip-hop and the culture around it. We break news, sit down for long-form interviews, report original stories and say what we think — clearly labeled as opinion when it is.

We come from the culture we cover. That means we know the difference between a rumor and a story, between a viral moment and a movement, and between commentary and reporting. It also means we hold ourselves to the same standard we’d want applied to the people we write about.

What we cover

• Hip-hop: artists, releases, labels, tours, the business and the beef.
• Interviews: real conversations with artists, creators, executives and the people around them.
• Culture: internet culture, creators, community and street stories.
• News: breaking stories, and the policy fights that touch music and the communities it comes from.
• Exclusives: original reporting and first looks you won’t find anywhere else.

Independent

CMJ Shark is independently owned. Advertisers and sponsors never get approval over our editorial coverage, and every paid placement is clearly labeled as Sponsored, Paid Partnership or Presented By.
